Our historical building at 238 Main St. has always been a staple in downtown Romeo since the 1930’s. It used to be a Mobil gas station with a repair garage and three gas pumps, until it was sold and remodeled in the late 1960’s. Louis Newlan, DVM, was the original founder/owner of RVH, but most clients know and love Dr. Michael Schumacher who purchased the hospital in 1983 and made Romeo his home. With a unique sense of humor and authentic compassion, Dr. Schumacher built a practice that generations of clients have been loyal to.
Dr. “Mike” decided to maintain a small, “hometown” style veterinary hospital that focused on routine surgeries, vaccinations, preventative care, and client education. However, for 20+ years, when it came to “difficult problem cases” and “diagnostic, medical, and surgical” expertise, he referred his patients to Oakland Animal Hospital in Rochester. He even depended on Oakland Animal Hospital when issues arose with his own personal pets.
Therefore, upon retiring, he specifically asked us, the doctors at Oakland Animal Hospital, to purchase RVH. He completely trusts that we will uphold his high standard of exceptional veterinary care as well as provide a true compassion and empathy for his clients and patients of 43+ years.
While we might be the new owners of RVH, we are not new to veterinary expertise. We have worked with Dr. Mike for over 20 years and have owned Oakland Animal Hospital for 50 years, and it is our absolute honor and privilege to work with you and for you.
It is our commitment and mission to not only treat your pet when it is not feeling well, but to also help you learn how to keep your best friend healthy throughout their life. We are unconditional animal lovers, devoted to giving pets the absolute best care and treatment possible, and we are grateful to carry on the legacy and tradition of veterinary excellence at 238 Main St. in Romeo.
