We are proud to be your hometown veterinarians.
At Romeo Veterinary Hospital, it is our commitment to provide excellent veterinary care throughout the life of your beloved pet. Our services are designed to assist in preventative care for young, healthy pets as well as early detection and treatment of diseases as your pet ages. We offer routine medical, dental, and surgical care including spays & neuters, as well as a host of other integral pet treatments. Our services are designed to help your pet live a long, healthy, and happy life.
Routine dental care is one of the most important ways you can help maintain a high quality of life for your beloved pet. Studies show that 85% of pets have damaging periodontal disease by age three when left unattended. Periodontal disease leads to inflammation of tissues around the tooth and if not treated commonly results in painful infected teeth and subsequent tooth loss. Advanced periodontal disease can adversely affect internal organs and potentially shorten a pet’s life. Quality of life is dramatically improved when the disease from a pet’s mouth is removed.
Blood labs and X-Rays are integral tools to determine and maintain the health of your pet. Just as humans need regular blood work to determine all aspects of our health, so do our pets. At RVH, we are proud to offer comprehensive diagnostic procedures such as blood chemistries and complete blood counts. These tests can detect heart worm, tick borne diseases, and metabolic issues related to organ dysfunction. We also offer digital radiographs (or X-Rays). Aside from bone damage and organ integrity, X-Rays can detect a variety of ailments including arthritis, tumors, bladder and kidney stones, lung abnormalities such as pneumonia, and so much more.
All of our veterinarians are highly trained and experienced in a variety of surgical procedures. Our general surgeries include spay, neuter, dewclaw removal, and general soft tissue surgery. All surgeries include state of the art anesthetic and pain management protocols, and with all procedures, presurgical blood screening is offered to minimize the risk of anesthesia. We always conduct pre-surgery bloodwork to ensure that your pet is healthy enough for surgery, and continually throughout the process we monitor your pet with technologies for healthy blood pressure levels, EKG, and oxygen / CO2 levels.
Did you know that 1 in 3 pets will go missing? And without proper identification, 90% will not be found. That’s why microchips are so important. A microchip is the size of a grain of rice that is inserted under your pet’s skin to provide permanent identification. All animal control, veterinary clinics, humane societies, and many police departments can scan for the presence of a microchip. The microchip is a permanent identification that cannot be lost or misplaced. Collars often come off or pets run outside unexpectedly without a collar. In an emergency, the microchip can speak for your pet and help them get home to you.
Similar to humans, our pets face many health challenges as they age. We will help you keep your pet healthy and active over the full span of their life while we help you understand the changing needs of your aging animal. We will help you monitor for signs of pain from arthritis, loss of hearing and vision, cognitive/mental changes, and many more that can negatively affect your pet’s quality of life. We can oftentimes help you dramatically improve the quality of life as these age-related challenges arise.
Providing your pet with an appropriate and balanced diet for their age and weight is one of the most important things you can do as a pet owner. We can prescribe the best diet for your pet including specialty diets that are scientifically formulated to treat and prevent certain diseases and conditions. Obesity is one of the most common health problems in pets which can lead to a host of issues like arthritis, torn ligaments, diabetes, urinary tract infections, and skin infections. It can also stress the heart and lungs forcing them to work harder to breathe and circulate blood. We are happy to consult with you about all aspects of your pet’s nutrition to help your beloved companion live a long, healthy life.
